About Modi: Three days on the madness wing?

Taking place in Paris in 1916, the film retraces three crazy days in the life of painter Amedeo “Modì” Modigliani, on the verge of collapse. Dodging cops while rushing through the artistic alleys of Montparnasse, he imagines stopping painting, moving away from the city that once illuminated him but now drags him down.

However, friends like the artist Maurice Utrillo, Chaïm Soutine and his British inspiration Beatrice Hastings will not allow him to disappear without a trace.

Fueled by the advice of his close art dealer Léopold Zborowski, Modì allows himself to be drawn into dreams, strange visions or deep sorrow. When wealthy American collector Maurice Gangnat arrives in Paris, the artist is faced with a choice that could either transform his career or destroy him completely.

In a 2024 interview with Variety, Johnny Depp shared Modigliani’s life story:

“Modigliani was, of course, one of the greatest contemporary artists of all time. But he also represented an era and a point of view where new possibilities still existed. His vision fascinates me.”

Depp further stated:

“He stubbornly marched to the beat of his own drum and possessed a natural allergy to convention at a time when the norm was openly challenged in every medium. It would be foolish not to admit that everything Modigliani always stood for and continues to stand for resonates deeply with me.”

Modì: Three days on the wing of madness also marks Depp’s reunion with Pacino after Donnie Brasco (1997).
