‘If you’re envious…’: Delhi Capitals star hits back at trolls targeting Jemimah Rodrigues’ faith | Cricket News

Veteran Indian coach Shikha Pandey has stepped in to defend Jemimah Rodrigues after the young batter faced a wave of online trolling after the Women’s World Cup final. Jemimah, who was one of India’s key players in the tournament, found herself at the center of an unnecessary controversy after her comments during the post-match presentation in the semi-final. After her unbeaten 127-run win over Australia in the semi-final, Jemimah had credited her faith, thanking Jesus for guiding her and helping India reach the final. Although his words were sincere, they received mixed reactions online. The trolling intensified after she failed to score big in the final against South Africa, even though India won the match by 52 runs and lifted their first-ever Women’s World Cup trophy.
As hate messages began to circulate, Shikha Pandey decided to speak out. The veteran point guard, who shares the Delhi Capitals dressing room with Jemimah in the Women’s Premier League, posted a pointed but gracious message on social media.

“I say this to everyone who needs to hear the obvious: Yes, Jemi is God’s favorite child and if you’re envious… uh… sorry, no one can help you,” Shikha wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. In the final against Laura Wolvaardt’s South Africa, Jemimah could not replicate her semi-final heroics, hitting 24 off 37 balls. But where she failed with the bat, she more than made up for in the field – throwing herself, cutting boundaries and saving vital runs that proved decisive in India’s effort to win the title.
