The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football in Week 8. Both teams have had mixed results throughout the 2025 season. Kansas City enters this game with a 4-3 record, while Washington owns a 3-4 record.

The Chiefs are finally starting to get healthy and their offense looks exceptional. They rank 12th in the NFL in points (.410) per play, and that number rises to .441 over their last three games. They’ve scored more than 28 points in four straight games, and they’re averaging 31.5 points per game over that span.

The Commanders haven’t had much defensive success in 2025. They rank 20th in the league in points allowed (.389) per game this season. In total, Washington gives up 24.3 points per game in 2025.

Although Kansas City has recently gotten some of its key pieces back, injuries to its offensive line are a concern. Trey Smith is listed as questionable, while Josh Simmons has been ruled out. Typically, this would be a major concern, but the Chiefs substitutes performed well when necessary, and I believe they will have success as substitutes for this game.

The other key to their offense is that Washington hasn’t generated much pressure on opposing quarterbacks this season. They blitz at an above average rate, but they are a relatively average defense in terms of pressure.

Even with injuries to two key linemen, I expect Kansas City to give Patrick Mahomes enough time in the pocket to succeed throughout this game.

On the other side, Jayden Daniels was ruled out, leaving Marcus Mariota to get the start. Washington has had plenty of offensive success this season, regardless of who their quarterback is. In two games with Mariota as starter, the Commanders are averaging 34 points per game.

The Chiefs have performed well defensively this season, ranking eighth in the NFL in points allowed (.334) per game. We’ve seen them dominate some of the best offenses, but they also gave up 27 and 31 points against the Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Similar to Kansas City, Washington is healthier at its skill positions. Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel will return to the lineup, giving them a major boost.

I expect the Chiefs to do the heavy lifting to reach that total, but the Commanders have proven they can be successful with Mariota at quarterback. This total is a bit low considering how quickly these offenses can score.
