The clever reference to the show’s original theme song, performed by They could be giants, made fans instantly nostalgic.
The cover, titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life is Always Unfaira nod to the theme’s famous opening lyrics and will debut on Disney+ in 2026.
The series brings back Muniz as Malcolm, the third of five brothers in the famously chaotic suburban family, with Berfield returning as Reese and Masterson as Francis.
Longtime fans will also see some familiar faces, including Bryan Cranston reprising his beloved role of Hal and Jane Kaczmarek returning as pragmatic matriarch Lois.
Other returning cast members include Craig Lamar Traylor as Malcolm’s best friend Stevie Kenarban; Gary Anthony Williams as Stevie’s father Abe; Emy Coligado as Francis’ wife Piama; and David Anthony Higgins as Lois’ colleague Craig Feldspar.
Although Erik Per Sullivan, who originally played Dewey, will not return, the role will now be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.
The youngest brother, Jamie, who was just a toddler at the end of the original series, will be played by Anthony Timpano.
The revival also introduces a new youngest sibling, Kelly, a non-binary character played by Vaughan Murrae, marking a new addition to the family dynamic.
New faces joining the mix include Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend, Tristan, and Keeley Karsten as his daughter, Leah, hinting at how far the once-gifted genius has come.
With its blend of nostalgia, humor and a modern, family touch, Malcolm in the Middle: Life is Always Unfair looks set to revive the quirky charm that made the original series a fan favorite.
For those who grew up watching the misadventures of Malcolm and his family, this reunion promises to be one of the most anticipated returns of 2026.
