What the Rangers team learned immediately before Danny Rohl agreed to join

Rangers players and staff were informed that a new manager had been chosen over the weekend, with Heart & Hand sharing an insight into the message being sent by the club.
Rohl chosen as new Rangers manager
It has taken Gers a while to recruit their next manager, with Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat deciding not to take the job, representing two major blows for the Scottish Premiership side.
It is Danny Rohl who will be Russell Martin’s successor at Ibrox, with the 36-year-old most recently in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, completing a miracle breakout act with them in the Championship in 2023/24, before further steadying the ship last season.
The German is an exciting young manager with fresh ideas and an approach to the ball game, and although the Rangers position has become something of a poisoned chalice, supporters are desperate to believe Rohl is the right man to propel the club into the future.
Rangers players were informed of the new manager on Sunday
According to Heart and Hand PodcastRangers players were informed that a new manager had been chosen on Sunday evening, before Rohl was revealed as the man to take charge. So it appears the club management had already reached an agreement over the weekend, with just the finer points remaining to be ironed out on Monday.
Any Gers fans will likely be worried about the club’s appointment, given both Philippe Clement and Martin’s reigns were unsuccessful.
For some, a more experienced boss than Rohl was needed – Sean Dyche had been mentioned, but he becomes the next boss of Nottingham Forest – but for others, the German is a young manager with plenty to offer, having learned from Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich.
Rangers fans should be encouraged by what Barry Bannan said about them recently, after they thrived together on Wednesday.
“If he is appointed I really think he will go there and get results straight away. For me he will join the best I have worked with in my career. I know Glasgow can be a difficult environment because of the expectations of the Old Firm. But I would expect him to really hit the ground running because he is the sort of man people respond to.”
Hopefully this is the moment when Rangers change for the better, after a dreadful start to the season, but Rohl has a huge job to do, including grabbing 13 and eight points from Hearts and Celtic, respectively, at the top of the table, and impressing in Europe.
