The graffiti of “Indian rats” in Canada are expanding racist indignation, defense groups require action

A racist painted by spraying on a children’s park in Mississauga sparked outsourcing among immigrant communities and advocacy groups, with calls for the application of the law to recognize it as a crime of hatred. The graffiti, who read the “Indian rats”, were first spotted by an Indian immigrant and later shared on Reddit, arousing a widespread debate on racism and prejudices in Canada.
The Coalition of Hindus of North America (Cohna) condemned the incident, urging the police to investigate the “crime motivated by hatred”.
“We are deeply disturbed by the hate graffiti discovered next to a children’s park in Mississauga … This is not an isolated incident; this is part of an increasing model of racism, intimidation and hinterneau encountered by Indo-Cananadians and Hindus across the country,” wrote the group on X (formerly Twitter).
Cohna, who describes himself as a defense group of the base, also demanded stronger anti-hatred mechanisms at all levels of the government and called for Hinsuphobia to be officially recognized as a “specific form of hatred” requiring urgent attention alongside other forms of racism.
The User of Reddit, who discovered the graffiti, shared his dismay in an article which quickly gained ground online.
“Canada where I chose to immigrate to have the reputation of being a country of the most beautiful people on the green earth of God. But in my three years to be here, I had so many racism incidents that I lost the account,” said the post. “At the beginning, I ignored all these incidents as innocent errors … But now that?” It’s right next to a children’s park. What did I do so as not to deserve a respectful life here? ”
The post has detailed repeated experiences of bias: being profiled as a worker of delivery in restaurants, stopped for “random checks” in Walmart stores and grocery stores, and often confused with store staff despite the fact of not carrying uniforms.
“I paid thousands of dollars in taxes and expenses during my stay in Canada and continues to contribute to society – but basic social decency seems to be an impossible request,” the immigrant wrote.
The graffiti have triggered wider online conversations on daily racism to which South Asian immigrants in Canada, with a lot, urging the police to respond more decisively to what they consider as an increasing problem.
