Karachi: Karachi dairy producers have urged the government to approve an increase of Rs50 per liter in milk price, citing heavy losses caused by recent floods.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Dairy Farmers Association managers said that recent floods had seriously had an impact on Karachi dairy producers.

“The rates of almost all the elements used in the dairy industry have increased by almost 30%,” they said, warning that if the trend was continuing, there was a risk that animals die of hunger.

Dairy producers said they were already undergoing losses of 3 billion rupees per day as part of the milk supply.

“More than a million animals [cattle and buffalo] Are present in different colonies in the city, while the industry provides 5 million liters of milk daily in Karachi, ”they noted.

Given the dominant situation, farmers said that an immediate increase in RS50 per liter of milk prices was inevitable.

Farmers have threatened to organize a demonstration in front of the house of the Sindh -chief of the Sindh if notification for an increase in milk prices was not issued by October 1.

Milk is currently sold at Rs220 per liter across the city.
