Rinku Singh wants to lose T20 specialist tag

Rinku Singh, like all other cricket players, aspires to play test cricket for India and wants to get rid of the T20 specialized label
India cricket team star Rinku Singh is keen on proving himself as an all-format player instead of being known as a T20 star only. The middle-order batter, who had a sub-par IPL 2025 season, has found his touch once again. Emerging as the fourth highest-run scorer in UPT20 2025, Rinku aims to take that momentum heading into the Asia Cup 2025.
Rinku Singh has Test ambitions too
In an interview with Times of India, Rinku pointed out that he averaged over 54 in domestic red-ball cricket, noting that it wasn’t like he was good only in T20s. In fact, the UP batter has 3336 runs from 50 first-class games, with 22 fifties and seven hundreds to his name and averages 54.68. Rinku said that his dream was to play Test cricket for India in the future and that he is ready to grab the opportunity whenever he gets it.
“I know fans love it when I hit sixes, and I’m really grateful for that. But my Ranji Trophy average is also very good — I average over 55 there. I really enjoy playing red-ball cricket. I’ve also played two ODIs for India and did well in one of them. So, it’s not like I’m only a T20 player. I believe I can perform in every format if I get the chance. I don’t like being tagged as a one-format player,” Rinku Singh said.
Despite his Test ambitions, Rinku might have to wait for longer than he thinks to break into the longest format of the game. The UP batter did not find a place in Central Zone’s Duleep Trophy squad. Instead, he is now a part of the UPT20. This perhaps indicates that the selectors, both at state and national level, consider him to be a white-ball player only at the moment.
