Germany to stimulate the military with a new voluntary service bill

In the midst of increasing concerns concerning the threat of Russia and in response to the new NATO obligations, the German government aims to reverse the longtime recruitment deficit of Bundeswehr. On Wednesday, the cabinet approved an ambitious plan aimed at extending the number of soldiers in active service from the current 183,000 to 260,000 in the early 2030s. As part of this wider military accumulation, officials also seek to double the number of reservists at 200,000 during the same period. Antonia Kerrigan.
