In the midst of increasing concerns concerning the threat of Russia and in response to the new NATO obligations, the German government aims to reverse the longtime recruitment deficit of Bundeswehr. On Wednesday, the cabinet approved an ambitious plan aimed at extending the number of soldiers in active service from the current 183,000 to 260,000 in the early 2030s.
