Lafc d Maxime Chanot retires after the 10 -year career of MLS

Los Angeles FC defender Maxime Chaot announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old Luxembourg international spent 10 seasons in MLS with the New York City FC (2016-23) and Lafc (2024-25).
Chanot contributed 10 goals to 237 appearances in all competitions during his MLS career. He had a single MLS match this season while treating a head injury.
“Since I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a professional footballer,” said Chanot. “I chased this dream with passion and determination. Nothing came easy, but I’m proud to never give up.
“For 19 years, I fought every day, I pushed my limits and I went back after every fall. I had the immense honor and privilege to play for large clubs around the world, representing my country and living a career full of unforgettable moments.
“Despite all my efforts in recent months to return to the field, my head injury forces me to move away from the game I like. Although I had hoped for a different ending, I trust the plan of God and leave the game with a peaceful heart filled with gratitude for all that I was blessed to experiment in my career.”
Finalist of the MLS Defender of the year in 2019, he won an MLS cup (2021) and a Cup Campeones (2022) with NYCFC and a US Open Cup (2024) with Lafc.
“Max was successful wherever he played,” said co -president and managing director of Lafc John Thorrington. “It has been a model of professionalism whose consistency and leadership with its clubs and its national team will have long stayed. We are grateful for all that it has brought to the LAFC, and we wish Max the best when they start this next chapter together.”
Chanot scored four goals in 72 caps with the Luxembourg national team. He also played professionally in France, England and Belgium.
