780,000 Ryobi pressure washers recalled due to the risk of explosion

Having a pressure washer may seem to be a boon for owners who wish to clean the decks, the aisles and other external surfaces. But if you have one, immediately check the brand and the model: around 780,000 Ryobi brand pressure washers sold at Home Depot and other American and Canadian retailers are recalled.
The danger is serious, according to a notice published Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. “The capacitor of the pressure washer can overheat and burst, causing the ejection of parts with force, posing a risk of serious impact injury to the user or passers -by,” said the notice.
Ryobi received 135 overheating reports from capacitors, including 41 explosion reports, which led to 32 injuries to the fingers, hands, faces and eyes.
The recalled pressure washers, the Ry142300 and Ry142711vnm model numbers were sold for $ 300 to $ 400 at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet between July 2017 and June 2024. Most were sold in the United States, although 16,000 was sold in Canada.
If you have one of the affected pressure washers, stop using it immediately. Visit Ryobi’s reminder website to check if your model is assigned. If this is the case, you will receive a free replacement capacitor, including shipping and installation instructions. No receipt or proof of purchase is required.
The affected Ryobi models were not part of the list of the best CNET pressure washing, which assesses the pressure washers for affordability and flexibility as well as the assessments that are the best for specific work, such as cleaning VRs.
