5 reasons why the film Supergirl could be better than Superman

She came, she stumbled, she conquered. Anyway, Kara Zor-El of Milly Alcock, alias Supergirl, probably has the best cameo of “Superman” by James Gunn. It is also the ideal way to set up the Solo DC Universe film of the character, which went to us in 2026. Indeed, the public probably did not expect that the daughter of steel of Alcock presents herself in Gunn’s film as she does, and it is absolutely brilliant. In fact, on the basis of this scene alone, this daring writer feels courageous enough to say that “Supergirl” promises not only to correspond to the quality of Gunn Blue Blockbuster, but it is plausible that Kara can still surpass the first outing of the Kryptonian cousin in the DCU.

Compared to Kal-El, a more powerful guy than a locomotive and sweet enough to save a squirrel in the middle of an overwhelming battle, does the alter-ego carrying Cape d’Alcock do what it takes to give us one of the best films of comics of recent memory? Well, to judge by its source material (the exceptional comic strip of Tom King “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”) and all that we know about the film “Supergirl” so far, there are five solid reasons to think that the Kara du DCU will fly just as high as its steel man – starting with the fact that he is inspired by some of the highest Western and the highest Western. space dust.

Supergirl is a real grain in space … with dragons

Perhaps the most important and most important thing that distinguishes “Supergirl” from “Superman” is that he adapts a story that is literally out of this world but always feels close to her. Released from 2021-2022, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” plays like a fusion of “True Grit” and “Shane” while packing an emotional punch to equal them both. King’s Yarn follows the courageous but naive Ruthye Maryye Knoll (Eve Ridley in the film “Supergirl”), who is looking for his father’s killer, Krem of the yellow hills (Matthias Schoenaerts). During her trip, she finally crosses paths with Kara, one of the last Kryptonians and, in substance, the Coq Cogburn (or Shane, make your choice) of this story. Due to the events that this writer will not disclose, Kara agrees to join Ruthye in her mission to ensure that justice is rendered and the farmer’s daughter obtains her man, even if it kills her.

It is not at all a section to compare “Woman of Tomorrow” to “True Grit” in particular. Unlike Kal-El, Kara is a worn warrior whose 21st anniversary is interrupted by Ruthye, which results in the company of a quest that composes them against the pirates, dragons and animals of another world on their way to find Krem. It is through these epic chapters, however, that “Woman of Tomorrow” tells a story that is perhaps more human than that of Gunn’s “Superman” despite his place among the stars. The big question, however, is whether Alcock is up to the task … because if it is, it could end up cement its place as one of the biggest heroes on the big screen of recent memory.

Supergirl could transform Milly Alcock into the next big female action hero

The more you enter the award -winning story of King, the more you see echoes of films featuring the best female heroes in the history of cinema. In fact, “Woman of Tomorrow” brings “MAD Max: Fury Road”, “Aliens” and “The Long Kiss Goodnight” in mind thanks to his version of Kara, a character who has gone through a lot in her life when we meet here.

This also testifies to the gentleness division between Kara and Kal-El. Although she could seem younger than Superman, Supergirl was a teenager when Krypton fell and, as such, is haunted by the memory of this catastrophe, which the king revisits elegantly through flashbacks featuring Kara’s family. It is this heartbreaking background which, combined with the performance of Alcock, has the potential to make the supergirl of the DCU an icon for a new age, even more than the point of view of David Corenswet on the steel man.

As Gunn explained to Screenrant, Kara d’Alcock is a “total disorder”, which is often the case with the best heroes and tutors. Her alcohol consumption is as intense as her coarse language sometimes, she hesitates to let ruthye emotionally. (We dare to say that it is more similar to a certain “man of Adamantium” than that in steel.) The good news, fortunately, is that she will also have her animal companion of emotional support to help him in her trip.

Supergirl will present even more krypto

Although it could seem a little more than a funny cameo, there is much more in the appearance of Kara in “Superman” than to meet the eye initially. Given everything we know so far on “Supergirl” and the comic strip that he adapts, we can assume that the director Craig Gillespie will keep some of the fundamental elements of the awarded history of King, which includes Kara and Ruthye accompanied by the faithful canine of Kara Kryptto. Last extinguished and rugby for the last time Kara, the adorable super-dog actually plays an important role in King’s comics and could have the public even more concerned with the safety of the beloved puppy than in “Superman”.

The Han Solo de Kara chewie, Krypto already promises to be a major player in the future of the DCU thanks to his involvement in “Superman” and “Supergirl”. In this sense, he could end up becoming the response of the franchise (on all fours) to the agent of Clark Gregg Coulson since the first days of the Marvel, Sprint, Sprint, flying and barking universe through a variety of different chapters in the narration of the “gods and dear” of Gunn. But while the adorable and massively unruly fur buddy of Kara can serve as a connective tissue between the first two films of the DCU, “Supergirl” will also present a perfectly selected veteran of the extended DC character now disappeared as a character of all new (and highly anticipated).

Supergirl will finally give us Jason Momoa like Lobo

According to Gunn himself, when the announcement was made, the former director of “Guardians of the Galaxy” obtained the keys to the DCU, one of the first people to drop a text was a star who had his eyes on a well-loved anti-hero in particular. In no time, Word has released that Jason Momoa sets up his trident as anquaman of the DCEU and collects a monstrous cigar while the feared premium hunter in the DCU – and his first contract could arrive at the request of Kara.

This is where “Supergirl” by Gillespie seems to take an important detour to King’s source material, because Lobo does not appear in “Woman of Tomorrow”. At the same time, King said that he had initially presented his comic strip as a Supergirl / Lobo history. In his own words:

“This book started like me to launch a Lobo / Supergirl book, and it was my publisher[s]Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, who were like “No, get out of Lobo and make Supergirl the character of Rooster Cogburn.” “”

The hope is therefore that Momoa’s scenes as Lobo will not end up distracting from the wonderful relationship that flourishes between Kara and Ruthye on the path of history in its powerful end. We are all for Momoa assuming a role intended for him, therefore, ideally, Lobo will serve Labeouf in Cogburn of Kara in this intergalactic “real grain”. Just because he is the main man, that does not mean that Lobo must be here. The film is called “Supergirl”, after all.

Supergirl has the potential to be one-woman guards from DC of the galaxy

As “Supergirl” takes place, the public should already be used to seeing DCU characters in space thanks to the series “Lanterns” by HBO Max, which will see Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler reporting for service as Green Lantern John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Once their case is closed, we will follow Kara in an adventure that sends her through the solar system (and steering wheel under influence).

Although there is not necessarily a direct link between these stories, it is reasonable to suppose both “lanterns” and “Supergirl” will do their part to take the DCU more deeply in the cosmos, just like the “Guardians of the Galaxy” of Gunn made for the MCU. In many ways, however, it will be particularly important for “Supergirl” to stick the landing in this regard. After all, as loved as Melissa Benoist on Supergirl was in the television series of the same CW name, the previous iterations on the big screen of the character did not have so much love. Let us not forget, it has only been a few years that Kara de Sasha Calle obtained the short end of the CAP in “The Flash” of 2023, which turned out to be one of the largest commercial failures in the DCEU.

Fortunately, the future looks shiny for the Alock superhero. While Superman was a relatively safe character to inaugurate the DCU in theaters, the franchise could do with a more daring and rough hero with a gold heart, and it looks like a work for Supergirl. From top to top, you go, Kara.

“Supergirl” arrives in theaters on June 26, 2026.
