3 Best New HBO Max Movies I’m Watching This Weekend (December 19-21)

HBO Max is in a party mood this weekend, and it’s not because of the holidays.
The popular streamer just added one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2025 to its library: One battle after another. After bringing in $200 million in revenue worldwide, the Leonardo DiCaprio the comedy is now available to watch at home.
Other notable films Watch With Us recommends you watch this weekend include the animated sequel Ne Zha 2which remains the highest-grossing film this year, and the romantic comedy-drama Table 19 with Anna Kendrick.
“One Battle After Another” (2025)
Every year there is a film that is generally considered the best, and in 2025 it is One battle after another. Directed by Paul Thomas Andersonacclaimed movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio like Bob Ferguson, a stoned former revolutionary on the run from the authorities. When her teenage daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti), becomes the target of an old adversary, Steven Lockjaw (Sean Penn), Bob must bring together his protesting friends, the 75-year-old Frenchmen, to stop Lockjaw and save Willa from certain death.
Like most good films, One battle after another defies description. Is this an action movie? Somehow. A thriller? Of course. A black comedy? Well, I laughed, especially every time Benicio del Torowho plays Sergio, Bob’s paranoid boyfriend, was on screen. Like most great films, One battle after another defies description. What we can say about it is that it is an entertaining, profound film that feels current affairs. Twenty years from now, if someone asks which movie accurately describes what it was like to live in 2025, One battle after another is the only correct answer.
One battle after another is now streaming on HBO Max.
“Ne Zha 2” (2025)
HBO Max just added the highest-grossing movie of 2025, and no one knows it. No, I’m not talking about Zootopia 2 Or A Minecraft movie – I’m talking about Ne Zha 2the hit animated film that made most of its $1.9 billion in its native China. When Best Friends Ne Zha (voiced by Puatu Griffon) and Ao Bing (Alex Le) are forced to share the same body, they must learn to share – otherwise Ao Bing will disappear forever. Soon, an alternative emerges: Ao Bing can obtain a new body if they both pass three tests of Courage and Courage. Sounds easy, right? But what if this competition is a distraction from a larger game at play, one that could see their homeland destroyed?
If you’re unfamiliar with Chinese mythology or haven’t seen the original Ne Zhayou might feel a little lost, but it’s worth it. This sequel features stunning animation, with visuals you won’t find in your average Disney or DreamWorks show. Although its complex plot may confuse some Western audiences, Ne Zha 2 is a fun, if sometimes confusing, adventure that will make you understand why virtually everyone in China has seen it and wants Ne Zha 3.
Ne Zha 2 will premiere on HBO Max on December 20.
‘Table 19’ (2017)
Eloise McGarry (Kendrick) doesn’t want to attend her best friend’s wedding, but she has no choice: she helped organize it! That’s why she knows that when she was moved to table 19 for the reception, she was thrown out with “the misfits”, people too weird or too sad to talk. When Eloïse meets her ex-boyfriend Teddy (Wyatt Russell), she thinks her day can’t get any worse. But her new misfit friends believe a romantic spark still exists between the former couple and encourage Eloise to try love again.
Sweet and old-fashioned, Table 19 is a romantic comedy for anyone who thinks they’ve lost the game of love and wants to unsubscribe. Like Table of Nuts, an all-star cast made up of actors like Lisa Kudrow, June Squibb And Craig Robinson provide the requisite amount of laughs and support, while Kendrick is reliably entertaining as the misanthropic Eloise, who isn’t as cynical as she thinks she is. Table 19 is a discreet charmer who offers you a happy ending that you might have missed in real life. Isn’t that what movies are for?
Table 19 is streaming on HBO Max.
