Scottie Scheffler dominates Memorial again, puts us in sight on the United States in Oakmont

The commemorative tournament of Jack Nicklaus had barely arrived at its conclusion on Sunday when the host himself turned his attention for two weeks.

“You will find the same harsh in Oakmont,” said Nicklaus, showing that even at 85, he still has his spirit formed to the United States.

The Nicklaus council has been proposed with Scottie Scheffler, who has recently shown that unsolicited advice is not necessarily necessary.

Scheffler is in the race that promotes the history of the game. A victory in the memorial was his third in four tournaments and his seventh consecutive top 10. He became the first player to repeat in the village of Muirfield from Tiger Woods (1999-2001). They are the only two to be consecutive in the event.

Perhaps not since the age of Woods, the domain was so focused on a single opponent during the size of a chance to win a tournament. The multiple qualifications for success now seem universal: the game as well as you can and hope that Scheffler Subperformance.

“You know that he will hit the fairways, you know that he will hit the Greens, he will not really make mistakes,” said commemorative finalist Ben Griffin about Scheffler.

“Yeah, you know that Scottie will probably play a good golf round. The guy is relentless,” said the third finisher Sepp Straka.

Jon Rahm, from Spain, threatened to be the guy that Scheffler is now, but he has taken the money liv and ran, with his exploits which barely resonate. Rory McILroy of Northern Ireland has recently reappeared with five tournament victories in the past two years, including the completion of the Grand Calem of Masters this year. But Scheffler has just won the PGA championship and is the current man of the moment.

Scheffler has been the world of the world for 142 weeks on four separate sections since March 2022, including each of the last 107 weeks.

The last player to sit on the top throne of golf for so long consecutively? Woods, with his record of 281 consecutive weeks from June 2005 to October 2010.

Where Woods was all the thunder, however, Scheffler is ice – with fairways, greens and all the recovery blows that he needs.

Scheffler’s strategy in the village of Muirfield last weekend? Avoid the juicy at all costs and do not try to control it when the moment happens. This brings all this to Nicklaus and its warning for Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh, where the US Open will take place from June 13 to 16.

If the Roughly on the Memorial seemed unprecedented, the field will be better ready for what it will face about 200 miles in the East when the United States Open starts.

“I mean, it’s the same grass,” said Nicklaus. “It will be the same thing throughout the Midwest.”

McILroy, player No. 2 in the world, has chosen to jump the memorial to follow his traditional preparation for major tournaments playing in the event a previous week. This means that he will play in this week’s Canada Open, that Scheffler will jump.

The world n ° 3, Xander Schauffele ended in dull equality for the 25th to the Memorial by passing 6 on the peer in the last two towers and 4 for 72 holes. N ° 4 Collin Morikawa finished equally in the 20th row and has not finished better than 17th in its last five events, while missing the cup in one of them.

Something will have to change among the best in the world to connect to Scheffler, who has the full support of one of the big ones of all the games of the game.

“(Scheffler) has the ability to bring your level to whatever the level it should be,” said Nicklaus. “This is what the right players do. And, you know, he’s not a good player – he’s a great player. I mean, look at the record he has had in recent years. It’s incredible.”

While the most intimidating characteristic of Scheffler could be its remarkable consistency, the statistics to be feared while the next major tournament is as follows: six PGA Tour victories by at least four shots in the last two seasons.

And the most recent four -stroke victory on Sunday may well allow him to mow the field in Oakmont.

“This is what I think I am great in this golf course – there is an opportunity and there are good difficulties,” said Scheffler after traveling the Muirfield track four consecutive days. “Regarding the preparation work for the United States, I mean, the Roughs will be quite similar, and I think it’s excellent preparation.”
